AA Division
Welcome to Saratoga Little League and AA Baseball 2010!

Players and parents, welcome to AA Baseball !

The “AA” baseball division allows players to learn more about hitting, catching, fielding, throwing and pitching. As always, the emphasis will be on teamwork, sportsmanship and creating a positive experience for all players. AA introduces player pitching and bunting, two exciting elements, to the game of baseball. Saratoga Little League places a high priority on developing pitchers starting in AA. Stealing bases is not allowed which helps pitchers and catchers focus on developing their skills with less pressure.

The AA coaches and board members understand that the players are here to have fun and to enjoy time with their friends. In AA we continue to work with players on their basic skills while enjoying a season with playoffs, which makes for a great baseball experience. In the spirit of developing players in a wider array of positions and skills, we are not keeping regular season standings. This and other local rules will facilitate and promote player rotation in the field and batting order. Playoffs will use a “Round Robin” format.

We thank all parents for their support in the stands and their volunteer efforts. Please “Honor the Game.” A successful season is measured by the number of players who continue to play next season.

Sincerely

Bill Inserra

AA Commissioner 2010

Description
AA is also considered a developmental Division with an increased level of competitive play compared to the Farm Division. Coaches’ are encouraged to emphasize player instruction and development. Players range from 8* - 10 years old. Live pitching is introduced with walks being limited to two per inning per team. Players are placed on teams based upon evaluation ratings and team needs. Each player must play a minimum of four innings in a six-inning game. Ten players are assigned to field positions each inning, and all roster players bat whether assigned to a field or not. Standings are not kept during the regular season. Upon completion of the regular season, a post-season playoff tournament is held. The First and Second Place teams from this tournament receive trophies.

*  For an 8 year old to be eligible to try out for the AA division, he/she must be recommended by the division commissioner and receive a 2/3 vote of approval from the Operations Committee.  For the Commissioner to recommend a player, the player must be considered an “impact player” who will be drafted within the first half of the draft.

  • Develop proper sliding technique.
  • Develop tracking skills for catching fly balls.
  • Pitchers learning proper throwing mechanics.
