| Selection of All Star and Tournament Teams |
|
This page provides about the SLL procedure for manager and player selection, tentative tournament dates and national policies concerning All Star and Tournament teams. Saratoga Little League is divided into 5 separate Divisions. A distinct developmental charter defines each Division to ensure players are appropriately placed depending upon their age and skill level. Each Division is progressively more competitive than its predecessor and is intended to advance player development and enhance player skills in the game of baseball and sportsmanship. There is one All-Star Team and that is a team made up from a selection of 12 year old Majors Players. All other teams are referred to as Tournament Teams. The 12 year old team, is the team that has an opportunity to go to Williamsport for the Little League World Series. Other Tournament teams can play to various levels of District, Sectional, Regional and State levels. The commitment of All-star managers/coaches, players and parents is not to be underestimated. Most teams practice daily for two weeks prior to the two week tournaments. Eligible players and parents will be asked to verify availability during the tournament dates as well as potential tournaments beyond the first should the team win. By National Little League policy, All-star/Tournament Teams may neither be announced nor commence practice prior to the earlier of June 15th or two weeks prior to the Tournament start date. Accordingly, the All-star Selection committee will collect and tabulate votes for All-star players for all teams and review rosters with the selected All-star Manager immediately prior to the deadline for release of names. After review of many successful leagues and with an emphasis on fairness and getting the best team, the Saratoga Little League Board of Directors has adopted policies governing All-star and Tournament team (collectively “All-star Teams”) selection for select as appropriate.
The policy emphasizes fairness in the All-star Team selection process for the benefit of all members of the SLL community including Players, Parents and Coaches. It provides visibility through a clear definition of the selection process of the Managers and the Players. It also provides balance by providing Players in the 10, 11, and 12 year old age groups the responsibility to vote for their peers, and combining those votes with Manager votes in determination of the final team roster. In addition to the All-Star Team and the Tournament Teams, there are two TOC teams - a Majors team and a AAA team. These teams, the winners of our playoffs, play in a single-elimination tournament against the winners of other local leagues. As every team in Majors and AAA makes the playoffs, every team has a chance to go to the TOC. Saratogal Little League has done well at the TOCs in the past several years. The Selection process for each All-star team is detailed in the attached documents: Note that all Files Require Adobe Acrobat Reader. If a host league of a Section, Division, or Region Tournament changes their date, then we would have to adjust ours to accommodate that. So, these are the best possible dates that I can come up with at this point. Hence, if a date changes, don't shoot the messenger! |
